SPENCER SINGER: THE STYLIST CRAFTING CHARACTERS, NOT JUST LOOKS

In a fashion world obsessed with front rows and flashbulbs, Spencer Singer is a quiet anomaly. The 27-year-old stylist might skip fashion week entirely, but he’s behind some of the most compelling celebrity style moments of recent years, from Billie Eilish in custom skatewear to Lily-Rose Depp draped in Chanel couture.

Singer isn’t interested in stamping every client with a singular aesthetic. Instead, he builds full narratives around them. With a background in art history from The New School, his process is deeply rooted in references — from old films to vintage fashion editorials. “I’m not just putting dresses on girls,” he says. “It’s about creating characters.”

His storage units (yes, plural) are filled with vintage Prada, Comme des Garçons, and unexpected eBay gems — pieces he hoards for the right editorial, tour, or red carpet moment. “If it doesn’t work now, I’ll find a use for it later,” he laughs.

Singer’s styling is intuitive and collaborative. He moodboards extensively with clients like Gracie Abrams and Rosé, referencing everything from The Red Shoes to late-’80s Chanel to shape custom couture with houses like Saint Laurent and Chanel. Even with no official creative director, Singer helped conceptualize a custom Grammys look with Chanel’s atelier, blending their codes with Gracie’s own voice.

While he’s styled some of the biggest names in entertainment, Singer’s heart is just as invested in emerging labels. He regularly collaborates with young brands like Judy Turner and even partnered with Etnies to create custom skate shoes for Eilish’s performances.

As for dream clients? “I feel so well-matched with the ones I work with,” he says. “But if Cher knocked on my door… absolutely yes.”

In an industry that thrives on spectacle, Spencer Singer is quietly redefining what it means to be a stylist — one character at a time.
